25th July: CAR Wash Raises over £400 for Fire Brigade fund and Aces
This summers event was held in blistering heat at the soon to be decomissioned Dunkirk fire station. With Notts county holding trials for its re started academy, the number of willing young workers was some what depleated in the morning. Hoewever, after a slow sart and a call to Trent FM and the Evening post, the cars began to arrive. With some of the under 11 aces players working well alongside the under 7's soccer school children, to get the production line flowing. Mr Chairman Les Sullivan, was happy to satnd out on the road with a giant yellow sign, drawing attention and directing the cars through the fire station. In the afternoon, more players turned up from the clubs under 13's, under 12's and new under 11's and dressed in their aces kits, soon wipped up a frenzy of bubbles and water to cool procedings down. Compared to the thousand pound plus raised in March's event, this was considered by some to be a quiet day. With 25% of the money raised going to the Fire Brigade Benevolent fund and the rest helping the aces with funds for the coming season. The club still came away with over £300, which goes alongway to covering league costs and enabling the small and friendly club the chance to play in the Young Elizabethan League for another season. With Neil the photographer having camera issues, the Evening post were left to capture the action. The article will be published sometime this week. Well done to the men of Dunkirk fire station who were superb and to all the officials, parents and players of Clifton Aces, who were fantastic on the day. We cannot wait for the next one.
Clifton Aces under 13's , under 11's and under 7's are all on the look out for goal keepers. Please contact Les Sullivan on 07795483430 if you are interested in your child becoming part of a team.

Dear u11 Sat Team Manager
We have already had a couple of emails regarding the Divisions for next season at u11 saturday section.
We accept its impossible to please everyone but an explanation of how the Divisions were compiled is detailed below
Last season in the saturday section u10 Mini soccer we had 25 teams, 5 of those teams have not continued.
We then had 6 NEW teams and a further 6 teams that have moved over from the Sunday u10 Mini Soccer section.
A number of Clubs have traditionally played Mini Soccer on Sundays and then 11 a side on a Saturday.
As a Committee we had to take into account the playing record of ALL 32 teams that have entered the u11 Sat section.
If we had 40 teams like at some age groups then Div 1 would be 12 teams and then 14 teams in Div 2 & Div 3 etc.
But with only 32 teams to work with the maximum size of Div 1 and Div 2 was 11 teams in each followed by 10 teams in Div 3.
Under the league rules maximum size of any Division is 14 (12 in Div 1) so we had no choice but to have 3 Divisions.
In selecting Div 1 we looked at the playing record of ALL teams from last season at u10.
We decided to place all teams finishing in the Top 7 Sat or Sun in Div 1 plus the Top 2 from Div 2 were automatically promoted
This included Rolls Royce and Cotgrave who both finished in the Top 7 in the Sunday first Division.
It would not have been fair on them or the lower league teams to have placed them outside of Div 1.
This gave us 10 teams and the final selection was a choice between Clifton AW (now Aces) and Gotham Rangers who both finished 8th in u10 Div 1s last season.
The only way we could choose was the number of points gained per game with Gotham having the slightly higher points per game total.
So with room for just 11 teams in Div 1 we regret that we had NO option but to place Clifton, WB Sharks, Gedling Southbank & Toton FC in Div 2.
The u11 age group is the first 11 a side age group and we have to treat teams moving days equally, next season at u12s for example we would not automatically place a Sunday team into Saturday Div 1 but at u11 it is the only fair solution.
We appreciate some teams will still not be happy, but trying to provide everyone with a place in Div 1 was impossible.
Regards
YEL Divisional Committee

Youngsters get fired up about football
Firefighters from Dunkirk Fire Station are using football to help drive home important fire safety messages by sponsoring football kit for the newly-formed Clifton Aces Football Club.
The kit, which carries a ‘Fire Kill’s logo, will be presented to the Clifton Aces Under 11s and Under 13s teams by Chief Fire Officer Frank Swann, next Wednesday evening (27 June). The ‘Fire Kills’ logo will also be worn on the shirts of the Senior team.
Firefighters decided to get involved with the club following its launch in March this year.
Green Watch Crew Manager Jonathon Howard said: “Belonging to a football team encourages the children to exercise and eat healthily, to work together as a team and it keeps them off the streets and out of trouble. By sponsoring the kit, we are not only enabling the kids to go out and play football, but also helping to get important fire safety messages out to the players themselves, and anyone who comes along to support them.
“We’ll be educating the players about the dangers of playing with fire and making hoax calls, and will be ensuring that each player’s home has a smoke alarm and that they know what to do in an emergency. It also means the players will be acting as ambassadors for the fire and rescue service by displaying the logo during matches, training and at fundraising events.”
The Dunkirk crews are also planning to support the team in other ways, by attending matches and fundraising events with an appliance and fire safety leaflets. They have also secured the use of the playing field at the back of the fire station for the teams to train during the summer months.
Clifton Aces General Secretary Les Sullivan said: “We are delighted to be working so closely with the Fire and Rescue Service, and in particular the crews at Dunkirk. The involvement and support of the firefighters has given our young players a real sense of pride and commitment – and I know they can’t wait to be out playing in their new kit!”
The Clifton Aces Under 11s and Under 13s teams will be playing in the Young Elizabethan League, while the Seniors will play in the Nottinghamshire Alliance. Their first games of the new season will be on 8 and 9 September 2007.
